I’ve been on both sides of the lens as a model represented by with Boss Management in Vancouver for over a decade in acting and modelling and later with Vogue Model Management here in Ontario. I know the ins and outs of submissions, castings, and how the industry really works. Now, as a photographer, I help new faces create portfolios that actually get noticed by these agencies.

✨ A Model’s Guide to Agency Submissions
- Review the contract carefully: Legit agencies won’t pressure you to sign anything on the spot. Look for clear terms about fees, commission, and photo usage. If they do pressure, run the other way.
- Know standard fees: Most legit agencies do require a small annual “headsheets” or admin fee (typically $100–$300). This covers things like your online portfolio on their site, casting databases, and admin upkeep. It’s standard practice, but anything larger is a red flag.
- Submit clean digitals: Keep photos simple — no filters, heavy makeup, or elaborate styling. Agencies want to see your natural look.
- Be patient: Agencies receive hundreds of submissions. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t hear back immediately.
- Verify agency credibility: Are they listed on modeling association sites? Do they have professional client connections?
- Ask questions during interviews: A professional agency welcomes inquiries about contracts, representation, and opportunities. If they discourage you from asking, consider it a warning.
- Follow your instincts: If something feels off, it probably is. A trustworthy agency will make you feel respected, not pressured.

- Why they’re great: Have been around since the 80's. Boutique, highly curated roster, strong editorial and commercial connections. They’re selective but respected for quality over quantity. What really stands out about B&M is the family-like atmosphere. Their team is known for genuinely caring about their models’ careers and well-being, not just the bookings. Having photographed models for their portfolios, I’ve seen firsthand how B&M nurtures and supports their talent where it feels more like a partnership than just representation.

2. Sutherland Models – Toronto
- Why they’re great: One of Canada’s longest-running agencies (since the 80s), with a legacy of international placements and divisions for men, women, and commercial talent.
- Submission info: Apply to Sutherland Models
- Note: Expect them to be highly selective. Clear, natural photos matter most. Minimum height requirements - Females 5'7" to 5'11", Non Binary 5'7" to 6'3", Males 6' to 6'3"

- Why they’re great: Part of the world-famous Elite network founded in 1977. They’re known for scouting runway-ready faces and placing talent internationally.
- Submission info: Apply to Elite Toronto
- Note: If high fashion is your dream, this is the agency to shoot for.
4. Spot 6 Management – Toronto
- Why they’re great: Known for their edgy, fashion-forward talent. They’ve placed models with luxury brands and major runway shows.
- Submission info: Apply to Spot 6
- Note: They lean toward tall, editorial looks — runway-ready models thrive here.
5. Vogue Models & Talent Management – Hamilton
- Why they’re great: A strong option for new models and actors outside the Toronto bubble. They provide development and local opportunities, while still connecting talent to bigger markets.
- Submission info: Apply to Vogue Models
- Note: This was my agency in Ontario. Being represented by Vogue gave me the opportunity for more commercial work as a now Mom later in life for both acting and modelling and they were a hard working wonderful agency to be represented by.
- Why else they’re solid: Unlike some larger agencies that might overlook fresh talent, Vogue invests in developing new faces. They’ve built a strong reputation in Southern Ontario for giving models early opportunities — fashion shows, commercial work, and test shoots — which can be a crucial confidence boost and portfolio builder before stepping into bigger Toronto agencies.

6. Morgan Model Management – Toronto (The Bonus Pick)
- Why they’re great: A smaller boutique agency that prides itself on nurturing and developing new talent. A great stepping stone for fresh faces who want more guidance.
- Submission info: Apply to Morgan Model Management
- Note: Good for models looking for personal attention and mentorship. Female models should be at least 5'9 and male models a least 6'0.
